Black Meadow Suris goal is:

To provide the highest quality Suri Alpacas to a growing industry.

We have developed our farm to provide a diverse collection of suri alpacas. We have a passion for quality customer service and friendliness. Come experience the power that a small dedicated farm can bring to your breeding program!

Services that we provide include long and short term agisting, breeding services, and alpacas sales. We also are opening two stores; one online and the other at the farm.

Our online store is now open for business - in a limited way. The first products that we will be selling will be alpaca fiber but shortly after that we will be adding alpaca products like socks, hats, scarves, and sweaters. We are targeting July 1st to add more products! Our online store can be accessed from the main menu bar.

	Black Meadow Suris began in 2005 as an expansion of the west coast farm, Alpaca Vista Suris in Poulsbo, Washington. Black Meadow Suris is located on over five acres in the rolling hills of Spotsylvania Virginia (which is just 11 miles West of Fredericksburg, Virginia and halfway between Washington D.C. and Richmond).
Suri alpacas make up a very small percentage of the alpaca population. One chief difference is their fleece which is silky, hanging in long, separate, distinctive pencil locks or ringlets which resemble dreadlocks. A high quality suri fleece is so lustrous that it glistens in the sunlight and feels like silk.The precentages of Suris vary depending on who you ask and how the precentages are calculated but it is somewhere between 5% and 15% of the worlds alpaca population.		Non-white Suri alpacas are an even smaller number. Most alpacas were not originally bred for color. It has only been in the last decade that non-white alpacas have started to come into their own. This is where we have found our niche.Since white alpacas have been developed and bred longer it was natural for us to use their advanced genetics in our breeding program.
	We have had a lot of success in breeding white females with color in their background to color males. The cria have turned out fantastic and allow us to produce higher quality colored Suris. One hallmark of a quality farm is to admit that they may not have the right match for a breeding or that there are other alpaca farms that have great alpacas. That is why we consistantly scan the industry and match our females with the best Suri male genetics regardless of location. We have Captain Morgan, LCA Accoyo Rico, Ameripaca's Jax Crossfire, and many other genetics included in our herd. Our goal is to always improve on the last breeding by matching our females with a better male. This way we continue to improve our herd as well as the alpaca breed.
